We are all massive Alexisonfire fans and this song is where that comes through the most. The structure and feel pays homage to AoF’s track “Accidents” and if it were to be described in one word, it would be atmosphere. It’s the kind of song that with each listen, you’ll find something new but it’s still kept catchy with a great chorus that’s easy to sing along to. It’s a song where we make use of interesting production techniques and slightly improvisational guitar parts as well as giving it a lot of breathing room live to stretch out and interact with the crowd.
The lyrics center around the confining nature of abusive relationships. The speaker laments how their partner has stripped them of their autonomy and turned them into a cartoonish fantasy, instead of a legitimate relationship. It’s a protest song for a failed relationship.
lyrics
You’ll see I’ll be
Home again. Safe Again.
You’ll see I’ll be-
The girl you fell for. Your manic dream whore.
The secret fantasy you had locked away.
So still you wait there, awash in night air,
Still waiting for the green light to return.
I don’t deserve this, the secret lover’s kiss,
The wonderment of a life you thought could stay.
But I am not her, oh, she was younger,
She was the promise of a life you’d yet to live.
(I’m just one breath away from falling apart
I’m just one breath away)
You built a prison just for us
And you’re locking me away.
The sins of the mould you cast
Aren’t mine to hold,
Yet here I’m suffering.
I’m suffering, I’m suffering
Here with you, here with you
I’m suffering, I’m suffering
Here with you.
(Left for dead)
I am the girl you left behind, and then left for dead.
On the farther shore I waited for you to return,
But I got sick of waiting. My heart was closed for good.
It took me this long to get over the distance between us.
You built a prison just for us
And you’re locking me away.
The sins of the mould you cast
Aren’t mine to hold,
Yet here I’m suffering.
I’m suffering, I’m suffering
Here with you, here with you
I’m suffering, I’m suffering
Here with you.
