about

Surprisingly, the song in fact has words. The song is an exploration of really trying to blend the heaviest we could get along with how melodic we could be. It’s also a demonstration of a wide dynamic range that conveys a wide array of emotions. The lyrics dive into an interesting concept (a paid mourner for funerals of people who may not have enough people in their lives to cry for them) and all comes together into one of the most interesting tracks on the album.

lyrics

Like smoke in your fingers / the pain ever lingers
They left without warning / no words for their parting

I'm there in the crowd / I'm weeping out loud
And thinking of what I will make for dinner.
I'm here to be seen / I hope I'm not mean
When I say I'd rather be home.
They paid me for mourning / I'm jewels for adorning
the pews for your funeral rites.

So don't ask me how I know the family

You all need me in the end

I don't mean no disrespect. I'm sorry for your loss, but it don't mean a thing to me.
(bury me just like the rest)
I don't want to pay respect. I did not know the man, but I'm paid for the tears you see.
(bury me just like the rest)

(your tears, they mean nothing to me, bury me just like the rest)

You all need me in the end

I don't mean no disrespect. I'm sorry for your loss, but it don't mean a thing to me.
(bury me just like the rest)
I don't want to pay respect. I did not know the man, but I'm paid for the tears you see.
(bury me just like the rest)

I believed in something at first. Like this was something beautiful, but it's an intermission. An intermission from something infinitely darker and more beautiful.

Like smoke in my fingers / the pain ever lingers You left without warning / no words for your parting
